Lear's Habitat Conservation Links

Buy a Lear's Macaw Lapel Pin today and help save a rare and valuable bird in the wild of Brazil. Proceeds are used to send a captive breeding expert to Brazil for Governmental meetings, and to assist in raising and planting Licuri Palm trees, buy equipment for the new Lear's quarantine station, and future funding for the Lear's Macaw breeding center to be constructed in Praia do Forte, Brazil.

The Lear's Macaw is in danger of extinction. Today there are an estimated 450-500 birds flying free in Brazil, the only country where they can be found in nature.

The Lear's macaw strongly resembles the Hyacinth macaw but is much smaller in body weight. Lear's also has a characteristic white ring around the eye, and larger yellow cheek areas giving it a "clown-like" appearance. There are very few place a person could see a Lear's macaw. Legal birds may* be viewed by the public at:

Busch Gardens, Tampa FL
Sao Paulo Zoo, Sao Paulo, Brazil
Rio de Janeiro zoo, Brazil

* These facilities possess Lear's Macaws, but they may not be on display to the public.
